What is the process for getting dental implants?

To properly place a dental implant, a few visits are required. During your first visit, your dentist makes a small incision in your gum, drills a tiny hole in your jawbone, and places your implant. 

Over the next few months, your implant fuses with your bone in a process called “osseointegration.”

Once you’ve osseointegrated, your dentist places your abutment, which is a small post that connects to your implant and sticks up out of your gumline, where it supports your crown, bridge, or dentures. 

After your abutment has settled, your dentist takes an impression of your mouth and sends it off to a lab that fabricates your restoration. When your restoration is ready, your dentist affixes it to your abutment, giving you a beautiful new smile that you’ll be proud to share with the world.
