Same Day Dental Emergencies Q & A

What is emergency dentistry?

Emergency dentistry is dental care for conditions that require immediate attention, like a knocked-out tooth, intolerable pain or bleeding from the mouth.

An emergency dentist is trained to handle urgent situations, providing you with quick and effective dental care in stressful situations.

What are examples of same day dental emergencies?

Some conditions that might require immediate attention include:

  • An intense pain in your tooth or mouth
  • A tooth that’s been knocked out
  • A tooth that’s been significantly cracked or broken
  • A permanent tooth that’s come loose
  • A tear or cut on your lips
  • Physical trauma to your face or mouth
  • Bleeding or swelling in your cheeks, tongue, or gums

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, seek out help immediately and make your way to A One Day Dentures. Getting care within 30 minutes of your emergency could mean the difference between saving or losing your tooth.

What do I do if I’ve knocked out a tooth?

A knocked-out tooth is definitely a dental emergency, and you should seek care at A One Day Dentures as soon as possible.

Until you’re seen by your dentist, there are a few measures you can take to help preserve your tooth and increase your likelihood of saving it.

First, rinse your mouth and the knocked-out tooth with warm water. When rinsing the tooth, be careful to not touch its roots, and hold it instead by the crown, or the top portion.

Next, try to carefully reinsert the tooth into the empty socket, again, being careful not to touch the tooth’s roots. If you can get it back in the socket, gently bite down on it to hold it in place until you get to the dentist.

If you’re unable to get the tooth back in its socket, keep it in your mouth or put it in a glass of milk. The moisture will keep the roots from drying out and give your dentist a better chance at being able to save it.
