TEETH WHITENING INFORMATION

One of the most commonly requested procedures is teeth whitening. Everyone wants to have a perfectly white, beautiful smile, and we are glad to help. There are many options to whiten your teeth.
Some can be done at home, though we recommend a thorough examination with x-rays first before whitening your teeth to ensure your mouth is healthy. If you have gum disease (or another disease) that is causing your teeth to be discolored, teeth whitening won’t work until you take care of the underlying problem.
There are many options to whiten your teeth, though most people prefer to whiten their teeth at home. At-home whitening is often cheaper and easier to do. Many patients use whitening toothpastes, though that can take a really long time to get results. There are also strips and trays you can use at home if you want to try that first. It still can take weeks (and multiple applications of whitening products) before you see any changes in the color your teeth.
Your best bet for teeth whitening is at a dentist’s office. We are able to use stronger solutions of hydrogen peroxide than you can at home. The results are often much better and quicker than if you were to try whitening at home. You can often see results before you even leave our office.
Though it can be more expensive, it is easier to get teeth whitening done at our office. It helps to keep the mess out of your home. Some of the products used to whiten your teeth at home can be quite unpleasant. You may have trays that don’t fit your mouth. Many people complain about the taste of the solution and never complete the whole teeth whitening process, which doesn’t help at all!
People also prefer to do their own teeth whitening so that they don’t have to spend a lot of time in our office. They prefer to spend shorter amounts of time at home than to come in for a long appointment. However, all it takes is a few hours, and you can have noticeably whiter teeth!
If you are concerned about the color of your teeth and would like to talk to us about whitening them (either here or at home), we are here to help!
